CRC NEWS
SAVE THE DATEWHAT'S HAPPENING?It’s been an exciting month for the CRC during February, with the Art Awards and Exhibition back in the town hall. It was a mammoth effort to pull together, ably led by our Projects Officer, Sharon. A very big thank you to all who volunteered their time before, during and after the event.
We’ve also had lots of room bookings, provided IT support, hosted the fortnightly drawing class and held an AusChem Course. Our Management Committee elected new Office Bearers for 2024-25 and we welcome Lizz Rear as our new Chairperson. Amy Dyer continues as Vice-Chair, Helen O’Connell as Treasurer, and Hayley Graham as Secretary. Dan Sayer, Helen Walker and Jenni Mackie are all general committee members. A big thank you to Hayley for her efforts in the role of Chairperson since 2020. Do you love your Gazette? Would you consider making a donation to the CRC to assist in covering the costs of production? We are so well supported by our advertising businesses, however to ensure you continue to receive the Gazette for free, we are seeking new ways to help cover the increasing expenses. Initially inspired by the UK’s Book Start program, the pilot Better Beginnings was developed and, in 2004, commenced with a little over 1000 families across a small group of communities participating. After the successful pilot, Better Beginnings was revised to include models such as the Every Child Ready to Read program. In 2011, it was released to communities and libraries across the state. Early Literacy is defined as what children know about reading and writing prior to learning how to do these things. With this in mind, Better Beginnings aims to improve literacy by encouraging and supporting parents/caregivers to develop a child’s early literacy skills by sharing books, rhymes, songs and activities that foster language development with them. Today, Better Beginnings is available in libraries across WA and reaches over 80,000 families each year. RECYCLING HUB![]() 1 Tonne Recycled!
